Since 1917...

Not long after the turn of the century, there was a peddler pushing a small wagon laden with bolts of cloth, sewing needles, pots, pans and such, through every street in town. There may be a few residents to the village of Frankfort who remember him, his name was Francis Enjem.

In 1917, he went on a buying trip to New York City. He found more than merchandise to sell back home, he found a young woman, Matilda Hatem, who became his wife within a year. Seven years later, with two young sons and a thriving business located in a permanent building, Matilda was a widow. Mrs. Enjem, with the help of a few faithful friends, raised her two sons and the fledging general store became a department store, selling everything from ready-made clothing, to children's games, to china.

As the sons, David and Joseph came of age, they shouldered more responsibility for the business and the direction it was taking. As their lines of carpeting, tile and linoleum grew, the dry goods department became a thing of the past
